On the evening of April 19, 2020, officers from the North County Precinct in St. Louis County, Missouri, responded to a ShotSpotter activation alerting them to gunfire. The electronic detection system directed police to the 10500 block of Castle Drive, located in the Castle Point neighborhood of North St. Louis County. Upon arriving at the scene around 6:40 p.m., law enforcement discovered a male victim lying in the front yard of a residence.
The wounded man was identified as 24-year-old
Anthony Irvin. He had sustained at least one gunshot wound during the incident. First responders immediately treated him at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Irvin succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the medical facility.
Homicide detectives initiated an investigation into the shooting, canvassing the area for witnesses and evidence. Authorities publicly urged anyone with information regarding the motive or the identity of the shooter to come forward, offering potential rewards through CrimeStoppers for anonymous tips. As of late 2025, no suspects had been identified or arrested in connection with Irvin's murder, and the case remained an open homicide investigation.
Prior to his death, Irvin had been the subject of legal proceedings involving a domestic incident. In October 2017, he was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including first- and second-degree child endangerment, third-degree domestic assault, and unlawful use of a weapon. These charges stemmed from an event in St. Charles where authorities alleged he took his two-year-old son from the child's mother at gunpoint without legal custody. Police located Irvin and the child unharmed hours later at a relative's home in St. Louis.
