On the night of June 11, 2020, a violent incident unfolded in the Bevo Mill neighborhood of south St. Louis, Missouri, resulting in the untimely death of 29-year-old Daron Jefferson. The shooting occurred late that Thursday evening, with police receiving calls to respond to the scene shortly before midnight, around 11:50 p.m. The disturbance took place in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven convenience store located near the intersection of Delor Street and Christy Boulevard.
Upon their
arrival, officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department discovered a male victim who had sustained gunshot wounds. The injured man, later identified as Jefferson, was urgently transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect in the case, 34-year-old Darryl Anderson. Following the shooting, Anderson was taken into custody and initially charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Authorities noted that bond was not allowed for Anderson at the time of his initial charging. The case progressed through the legal system for over three years before reaching a conclusion.
In October 2023, the legal proceedings against the suspect came to a close when Darryl Anderson, then 37 years old, entered a guilty plea. Rather than facing a trial for the original first-degree murder charge, Anderson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Consequently, a judge sentenced him to serve 15 years in prison for his role in the fatal shooting of Daron Jefferson.
