In the summer of 2007, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Officer Norvelle Brown, a 22-year-old Black male, was tragically killed in the line of duty. The incident occurred on the evening of August 15, 2007, when Officer Brown was ambushed and shot in an alley in the 1600 block of Semple Avenue. Despite being wounded, he was able to radio for assistance. An undercover officer arrived at the scene, performed CPR, and transported him to a hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
