On the evening of June 16, 2020, a violent dispute over a parking space claimed the life of a 45-year-old male named Jermaine 'Rico' Hicks in the Kingsway East neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. The incident occurred on the 4700 block of Leduc Street, where Hicks and his neighbor lived. According to investigators, the two men engaged in an argument regarding street parking. During the confrontation, the neighbor produced a firearm and shot Hicks, who was unarmed at the time, in the head.
Hicks collapsed on the curb and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding authorities.
The violence did not end with the fatal shooting of Hicks. Witnesses and surveillance footage indicated that after shooting Hicks, the assailant turned his attention to the victim's wife, who had witnessed the murder from her residence. The gunman chased the woman, forcing his way into the couple's home. Once inside, he struggled with the wife and fired additional shots within the living room area. Fortunately, the woman was not struck by the gunfire, and the attacker eventually fled the scene after discharging his weapon.
Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Troy W. Jackson Jr., a resident of the same block. Jackson was subsequently arrested and faced serious legal charges in connection with the events. Prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder for the death of Hicks, as well as assault and two counts of armed criminal action related to the attack on Hicks' wife and the use of the weapon. following his arrest, a judge ordered that Jackson be held without bail while awaiting trial.
