In the late hours of June 29, 2020, a tragic sequence of events unfolded at a residence in the 11800 block of Seven Hills Drive in unincorporated St. Louis County, near Florissant, Missouri. Police officers from the North County Precinct were dispatched to the home around 11:30 p.m. after receiving a notification from a burglar alarm. Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered a horrific tableau involving three individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds inside the
residence.
Among the victims was 34-year-old female Kiaunu Jones, who was found deceased at the scene alongside an adult male. Investigators determined that the incident was an apparent murder-suicide. The male subject, whose identity was not immediately released to the public but was described in reports as a man from Chicago, is believed to have shot Jones before turning the weapon on himself. The authorities indicated that the man had forced entry into the home, triggering the alarm that summoned the police.
Inside the home, officers also located Jones's 5-year-old son, Cavari Jackson, who had been shot and was suffering from critical injuries. The young child was urgently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Family members later gathered near the scene, expressing their devastation, with Jones's father visibly distraught over the sudden loss of his daughter. While the investigation continued, detectives from the St. Louis County Bureau of Crimes Against Persons worked to piece together the relationship between Jones and the shooter, though initial reports suggested the motive and exact connection were still being determined. No arrests were made in connection with the case, as the sole suspect was found dead at the scene.
