Black or African American female Keva Hill, 34, was the victim of a fatal shooting in Kansas City, Missouri, in the early morning hours of September 24, 2020. The homicide investigation began after a series of unusual events at a nearby medical facility led law enforcement to her residence.
Kelshaun D. Moseley, identified as the primary suspect, arrived at the emergency department entrance of Research Medical Center around 4:00 a.m.
Before entering the hospital, Moseley approached a witness in the parking lot and handed over a stack of identification cards, asking the individual to hold them because he intended to surrender himself. Witnesses described his demeanor as hyperactive and noted that he muttered statements about a murder, claiming his girlfriend had 'set him up' and that people were coming for him. Moseley then made contact with an off-duty police officer at the hospital, initially stating only that 'something happened' and that he had killed someone.
Upon further questioning, Moseley provided the officer with an address in the 5900 block of Agnes Avenue. When Kansas City police officers responded to the home, they discovered Hill’s body inside a bedroom. She had sustained fatal gunshot wounds, including at least two to the head, with evidence of close-range firing. Investigators processing the scene located approximately 11 spent 9mm shell casings in the room and observed multiple bullet holes in the walls, indicating a significant discharge of a firearm.
Authorities determined that Hill and Moseley had been in a romantic relationship for about a month, and Hill had moved into the residence only a week prior to her death. Following the discovery, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office charged Moseley with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. At the time of the charges, prosecutors requested a cash bond of $250,000, and court records indicated that Moseley made statements to police comparing the situation to a past legal issue where he also claimed to have been set up.
