On the afternoon of November 25, 2020, the Kansas City community suffered the loss of Daveion Hill, a 24-year-old Black male who was fatally shot in the 6600 block of Monroe Avenue. The incident unfolded shortly after 5 p.m., just one day after his birthday. Police officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire, where they discovered Hill suffering from critical injuries.
Despite the immediate life-saving efforts attempted by first responders, he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at the location. His death was recorded as the city's 165th homicide of that year.
Born on November 24, 1996, to parents Tiffany Manney and Benard Hill, Daveion J. Hill was a dedicated father and hard worker known for his commitment to his family. He had attended Central and Grandview High School during his youth and had achieved certification as a lifeguard, a personal accomplishment he valued. At the time of his passing, he was employed by the City of Kansas City Solid Waste Department. Outside of his professional life, he was a trained boxer and an animal lover who cared for several dogs and a pet snake. He was remembered most fondly for the pride he took in his relationship with his young son, Kaiden.
The investigation into the shooting has faced significant challenges, and as of the most recent public updates, no suspects have been taken into custody. The Kansas City Police Department launched a homicide inquiry immediately following the event, seeking witnesses who might shed light on the circumstances leading up to the violence. Authorities offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest, urging community members to contact the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline. Despite these efforts, the case has remained open without charges filed, leaving his family and friends to continue their wait for justice.
