In the early morning hours of November 20, 2021, the life of 28-year-old Sandro Bajric was cut tragically short in Saint-Louis, Missouri. Police responded to a call reporting "shots fired" and an "accident" in the 700 block of North 15th Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered Bajric inside a crashed vehicle. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The incident was quickly classified as a homicide by the authorities.
Further investigation into Sandro Bajric's death revealed a grim sequence of events. An autopsy showed that he had been shot in the back, with the bullet appearing to have been fired through the back of the driver's seat of his Honda Odyssey van. In addition to the fatal gunshot wound, Bajric had a bruised abdomen and wounds on his knees, indicating that he had been physically assaulted before the shooting. This pointed to a more complex and violent encounter than a simple roadside incident.
For over two years, the case remained without charges, adding to the anguish of Bajric's loved ones. However, a breakthrough came in December 2023 when Justin Markee Ledoux, a 27-year-old man from St. Louis, was charged with Bajric's murder. Surveillance footage played a pivotal role in the investigation. The video captured Ledoux holding a handgun near the van with a group of people just moments before the fatal shot was fired. The footage also showed Ledoux grabbing Bajric and holding him in the back of the van while another individual repeatedly struck him. In a desperate attempt to escape, Bajric managed to get into the driver's seat, but Ledoux then fired into the back of the vehicle, leading to the fatal crash.
The investigation brought to light the violent and chaotic moments that led to Sandro Bajric's death. Ledoux faced a litany of charges, including murder, kidnapping, and assault. At the time of the incident, he was already on probation for burglary and felony domestic assault. The significant delay in filing charges was attributed to a backlog of cases under the previous St. Louis circuit attorney. The new circuit attorney, Gabe Gore, made it a priority to clear this backlog, which ultimately led to the charges being filed against Ledoux and several other individuals for various crimes. The charges against a suspect marked a significant step towards justice for Sandro Bajric and his family.
