On Saturday, February 13, 2021, 15-year-old Teshawn Ford, a male resident of the St. Louis area, was fatally shot during an encounter in the city's Greater Ville neighborhood. The incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. in the parking lot of Desta's Market, located in the 2500 block of North Taylor Avenue. According to investigators, Ford had arranged to meet another teenager at this location for the purpose of exchanging firearms.
During the transaction, the other individual attempted to forcibly take the weapon from Ford, firing multiple shots in the process.
Ford sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the struggle. Despite his injuries, he managed to run from the parking lot before collapsing near a vacant home in the vicinity. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. The chaotic scene also resulted in collateral damage; a 70-year-old bystander who was in the area heard the gunfire and was struck in the leg by a stray bullet. This second victim was treated at a hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Police investigators quickly identified a suspect after an 18-year-old male, Treshawn Fox, arrived at an area hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to his own leg, which authorities determined was sustained during the altercation with Ford. Fox was arrested and initially charged by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree property damage, and two counts of armed criminal action.
Following the judicial process, Treshawn Fox was convicted for his role in the death of the teenager. By October 2024, reports confirmed that Fox was serving a 15-year sentence in state prison for the killing of Teshawn Ford. While incarcerated for this crime, Fox faced further legal trouble when prosecutors charged him in connection with a separate, unrelated homicide dating back to 2020, linking him to that case through forensic evidence and digital communications.
