On March 25, 2021, a violent incident unfolded at the Welcome Inn motel located at 3550 East Evergreen Street in Springfield, Missouri. Just after midnight, at approximately 12:45 a.m., local law enforcement received a frantic 911 call reporting a shooting at the establishment near Interstate 44 and Highway 65. Upon arriving at the scene, Springfield Police Department officers discovered a male victim inside one of the motel rooms who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The victim was
identified as 26-year-old Dylan A. Hill, a resident of Springfield. Despite the response from emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators from the Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit immediately began processing the area for evidence and interviewing potential witnesses to piece together the events that led to the shooting. The investigation quickly developed leads that pointed toward a specific individual believed to be involved in the altercation.
Shortly after the discovery of the body, police identified a suspect in connection with the homicide. The investigation led to the arrest of 32-year-old Matthew Borg, also from Springfield. Following a review of the evidence by the Greene County Prosecutor's Office, Borg was formally charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Authorities indicated that the charges were allegations and that the legal process would determine the final outcome of the case.
