On the night of April 14, 2021, police in St. Louis, Missouri, responded to a report of a vehicle crash along Interstate 70. Upon arrival at the scene on the westbound lanes near Cass Avenue, just before Madison Street near the North Riverfront, officers discovered an overturned sedan resting on the grassy shoulder. The vehicle was riddled with bullet holes, indicating a violent event had precipitated the crash.
