In a tragic turn of events, a 23-year-old woman, Kacie Stith, was fatally shot in a St. Louis apartment on the evening of November 25, 2022. Responding to a call for an assault in the 5300 block of Gladstone Place, police discovered Stith in bed with a gunshot wound to her forehead. She was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Kacie Stith succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on November
28, 2022. The subsequent investigation into her death led to the identification of a suspect, 23-year-old Brianna Williams. Williams, who was identified as Stith's girlfriend, was present at the scene and taken into custody.
According to police statements, Williams claimed that she and Stith had been involved in an argument. She stated that in an attempt to get Stith's attention, she held a gun, which then accidentally discharged. Initially, Williams was charged with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action.
Following Stith's death, the charges against Brianna Williams were upgraded by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. A bond was set at $250,000, cash only. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kacie Stith's death is being led by St. Louis County detectives from the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons.
