On the evening of May 5, 2021, a violent altercation unfolded at a business establishment in Kansas City, Missouri, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Marc A. Davis II. The incident occurred just before 9:30 p.m. at a Domino’s Pizza located in the 4200 block of Blue Parkway. According to investigators, Davis entered the restaurant and began causing a disturbance, eventually engaging in a heated argument with staff members.
Witnesses reported that the situation escalated rapidly when he displayed a firearm while inside the building.
During the confrontation, an employee of the pizza chain produced their own weapon and fired multiple rounds in response to the threat. Struck by the gunfire, Davis fled the interior of the store but collapsed shortly after reaching the parking lot. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. Police officers secured the area and began interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage to piece together the sequence of events that led to the shooting.
Law enforcement officials took the employee who fired the fatal shots into custody for questioning immediately following the event. After being detained and interviewed, the worker was released pending further investigation. Detectives announced that once the full case file was completed, it would be presented to the prosecutor's office to determine if any criminal charges would be filed in connection with the homicide. No immediate charges were reported in the aftermath of the shooting, as the investigation sought to determine whether the employee's actions fell within the bounds of self-defense given the presence of a weapon in the hands of the deceased.
