On June 13, 2021, the life of 32-year-old female Andrea Latrice Ford Dean was tragically cut short inside a residence near the 4300 block of East Linwood Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri. Authorities were dispatched to the home regarding a shooting, where they discovered Dean unresponsive with a fatal gunshot wound. The investigation revealed that the violence stemmed from a domestic dispute between Dean and the father of her children. Three juveniles were present in the home at the time of the incident and reported to law enforcement that their parents had been arguing before the altercation escalated into deadly violence.

The suspect identified in the case was Christopher L. Spears, who was 33 years old at the time of the shooting. Following the incident, Spears traveled to a nearby Kansas City fire station, where he reportedly admitted to personnel that he had killed the mother of his children and surrendered a firearm. During subsequent interviews with detectives, Spears stated that he and Dean had been involved in a physical struggle over the gun during an argument about his involvement with another woman. He claimed the weapon discharged during the tussle, after which he regained control of the firearm and shot Dean in the head.

Prosecutors initially charged Spears with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. In February 2022, facing these serious allegations, Spears entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter as well as armed criminal action. A Jackson County judge subsequently sentenced him to a total of 17 years in prison, ordering a 14-year sentence for the manslaughter conviction and a consecutive three-year sentence for the armed criminal action charge.

Dean, affectionately known to her friends and family as 'Trice,' was remembered as a selfless and loving individual who worked as a home health nursing assistant. Her grieving family described her as a dedicated mother who was beloved by her clients and always willing to help others in need. The tragedy left her three young children in the care of their grandmother, prompting a wave of support from the local community and law enforcement to assist the family in their sudden transition.
