On the afternoon of October 5, 2021, tragedy struck in the Fairground neighborhood of Saint Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of 52-year-old Anthony Keith Lane. Around 12:30 p.m., Lane and a male acquaintance were present in a vacant lot or alleyway within the 4300 block of Warne Avenue. According to police reports, the two men were approached by a stranger who emerged from a nearby yard. Without warning, the gunman opened fire on the pair and the acquaintance's vehicle.

While the acquaintance managed to escape the encounter unharmed, Lane sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the ambush. First responders arrived at the scene to find him in critical condition and he was rushed to Saint Louis University Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, Lane succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The acquaintance later provided statements to investigators, describing how the shooter had fired upon them before fleeing the scene.

In the months following the homicide, investigators with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department identified a suspect. In early January 2022, authorities announced the arrest of 19-year-old Turner T. Williams in connection with the shooting. The Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Williams with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Following the charges, a judge ordered that Williams be held without bail as he awaited further legal proceedings.
