Angel Cruz, a 38-year-old Hispanic male from Lorain, OH, tragically died on September 1, 2016. He was killed in an apartment at Westgate Gardens on Leavitt Road in Lorain. The incident occurred just after midnight when gunfire erupted, leaving Angel Cruz and his brother, Jose Morales, dead. According to witnesses, the brothers were arguing when one brother shot and killed the other, and a neighbor then shot the remaining brother.
The neighbor, Maurice Kimbrough, was arrested on charges including tampering with evidence, obstructing official business, having weapons under disability, and carrying concealed weapons. However, it was not determined if Kimbrough acted in self-defense, and he has not been charged with murder.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that the incident was one of several homicides in Lorain that year, contributing to a concerning murder rate despite a decrease in other violent crimes. The case remains under investigation, with authorities awaiting forensic results to further clarify the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
