On the afternoon of October 26, 2021, law enforcement officials in St. Louis County, Missouri, were alerted to a violent incident in the northern part of the region. At approximately 4:45 p.m., officers from the North County Precinct responded to a call prompted by a ShotSpotter activation, a technology used to detect gunfire, in the 2000 block of Wilbert Drive.
Upon their arrival at the scene near Koeneman Park in the Jennings area, they discovered an adult male who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as 34-year-old Brandon Ellis, a resident of the neighborhood where the shooting occurred. Despite the response of emergency personnel, Ellis was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. The St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons immediately launched a homicide investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, detectives worked to gather evidence and canvassed the area for potential witnesses.
