On December 1, 2021, 19-year-old African American male Isaiah Danjell Abraham-Brown, an aspiring rap artist known to his fans and community as 'Mudbaby Zay,' was tragically killed in a shooting in Kansas City, Missouri. He had been building a local following for his music and had dreams of expanding his artistic career and starting a clothing line before his life was cut short.
In the early morning hours, Abraham-Brown was riding as a passenger in a vehicle traveling northbound on Blue Ridge Boulevard near 87th Street when the incident occurred.
As the vehicle moved along the boulevard, occupants of an unknown vehicle fired shots into the car Abraham-Brown was occupying. The sudden gunfire struck him, leaving the driver of the vehicle unharmed but in desperate need of assistance. The driver immediately contacted emergency services and continued driving north to the area of 81st Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard, eventually pulling into a church parking lot to wait for help. Despite the arrival of emergency medical crews who attempted to render aid, Abraham-Brown had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police investigators and crime scene personnel responded to both the location where the shooting took place and the secondary location where the car came to a stop. They canvassed the area for witnesses and collected evidence, temporarily closing down the stretch of road between 81st and 87th streets. In the years following the homicide, the case has remained unsolved with no reported arrests or identified suspects. His family, including his mother and godmother, have publicly pleaded for anyone with information to come forward, and a reward has been offered for details leading to an arrest, yet the shooter remains at large.
