The incident took place at the Cupples Station Loft Apartments on South 10th Street, where the family had rented a space to celebrate March birthdays. Kuaron was found deceased alongside his 12-year-old cousin, Paris Harvey, inside the residence.
The shooting unfolded while the two cousins were alone in a bathroom
livestreaming themselves on Instagram. During the broadcast, the pair were handling a firearm while posing in front of a mirror. Accounts of the video suggest that the weapon discharged, striking Kuaron in the head and killing him instantly. In the chaos that followed, the firearm discharged a second time, fatally wounding Paris. Family members, who viewed the footage or had it described to them, characterized the event as a freak accident, stating that the children were 'trying to be too hip' and playing with a weapon they should not have possessed.
Initially, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department classified the case as a murder-suicide, identifying the 12-year-old girl as the suspect who killed her cousin before taking her own life. However, relatives vehemently disputed this narrative, asserting that the livestream proved the shootings were unintentional and that Paris had panicked after the gun first went off. The family described the cousins as having a close, sibling-like bond, frequently making videos and pranking each other, which further supported their belief that there was no malicious intent.
