In the late summer of 1999, a German national named Rainer Klimek, aged 36, was enjoying a stay with a host family in the serene community of Wailua on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Described as a Caucasian male, standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 150 pounds, with blue eyes and brown or blond hair, he seemed to be embracing the tropical environment.
