Hermann Samitsch, aged 78, was last seen on December 6, 2017, in Marathon, Florida. On that day, Samitsch departed Boot Key Harbor on a solo journey aboard a 39-foot 1972 Pearson sailboat, which had a malfunctioning engine and minimal navigation equipment. He was en route to visit family in Panama and intended to arrive by Christmas. However, he never reached his destination, and no further contact was made.

The sailboat, lacking critical operational systems, raised concerns about his safety from the outset. Samitsch’s disappearance was reported to authorities in Panama after his family realized he hadn’t arrived. Despite search efforts, there has been no trace of Samitsch or his vessel since his departure, and he is presumed lost at sea. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate his case, which remains unresolved.

Last Seen: Dec 6, 2017
