Gianina was a familiar face at Pala'au State Park, a place she visited often in the year leading up to her disappearance.
The events of that Thursday at Pala'au State Park remain alarming and unexplained. Gianina was seen driving her vehicle at a high speed when she struck the park's caretaker, Jerry Rich. Rich, who knew Gianina from her frequent visits, was knocked to the ground but was fortunately not seriously injured. He believes the act was intentional, though he could not fathom a reason why. Immediately following this incident, Gianina drove to the nearby Kalaupapa Lookout, a scenic point known for its dramatic cliffs.
