Accompanied by the family dog and carrying a 12-gauge shotgun, he set off into the wilderness that surrounded the cabin.
At 5'11' and 150 pounds, with grey hair and brown eyes, Daniel was dressed for the outdoors in a green hat, brown tweed pants, and brown boots. As the day turned to evening and he did not come back for dinner, a sense of concern grew among his family members, who then began to search for him in the immediate vicinity.
When their initial search proved fruitless, the family officially reported him missing to the Powerview RCMP detachment at 6:45 p.m. on October 31, 1982.
