On May 6, 1972, a team of four men who were fishing and trapping resumed their journey, on dog sleds after purchasing supplies from Lynn Lake, Manitoba. Russell Bonner and his colleague were leading on Barrington Lake. The second team came upon their sled, broken through the ice. Upon arrival at the scene, both parties were found to be submerged. One of the men was pulled from the water but could not be revived. Russell never resurfaced and despite dragging operations he could not be located.
