On August 18, 1978, Craig Waldum took part in a canoeing expedition along the Nelson River in Gillam, Manitoba, with seven other people. He was one of two guides on the trip. Three members of the group were on the riverbank. They were guiding the second canoe to shore with a rope. The remaining five members, including Craig, were in the second canoe. While guiding the canoe to shore, they gave the rope some slack. This caused the bow of the canoe to turn out into the current and tip over. Those ...
