Summary based on the NamUs case record (MP156023)
Hendrik Johan Nunes, an 86-year-old man, was last seen on August 2, 2002. Originally from Aruba, Nunes was on a business trip to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. His journey involved a flight from Aruba to Puerto Rico, with a connecting flight to St. Croix. While it is confirmed that he arrived in Puerto Rico, his subsequent movements are largely unknown. Records indicate that he was scheduled to arrive at Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix at 12:59 p.m. on August 2, 2002.

The circumstances following his scheduled arrival in St. Croix are unclear. One report indicates that he was last seen on Campo Rico Beach on August 19, 2002, over two weeks after his flight. Nunes was known to enjoy walking and was thought to frequent the area around Rohlsen Airport and the Estate Betty's Hope in Frederiksted. The U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department in St. Croix is the investigating agency in his disappearance. His case was reported to them on August 17, 2002.

At the time of his disappearance, Hendrik Nunes was described as a Hispanic male, standing at 5'2" and weighing between 140 and 160 pounds. He had gray and white hair, was mostly bald, and had a white moustache. A notable distinguishing characteristic is a scar on his right ankle. The clothing he was wearing at the time is not definitively known, though it is suggested he may have been in brown work pants and sandals. Known by the nickname "Johnny," Nunes is a native of Suriname. His case remains unsolved.
