In the late afternoon of February 15, 2021, 36-year-old Joshua Scott Ivester was at his home on Wagener Circle in Walhalla, South Carolina. He left his residence with a male acquaintance and they walked to a nearby home in the vicinity of Rock Crusher Road and Coffee Road. This would be the last time he was reportedly seen. At the time of his disappearance, Joshua was described as a white male, standing 5'11" and weighing around 190 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
He has numerous distinct tattoos on his face, scalp, neck, and arms. He was last seen wearing a camouflage hoodie, a camouflage hat, blue jeans, and brown boots. His family grew concerned when he did not return, stating it was uncharacteristic for him to leave without any warning, especially given his close relationship with his young son and two stepsons. His wife was also pregnant with their daughter at the time.
The days following his disappearance were filled with worry and a growing sense of unease for his loved ones. His mother recalled seeing him on the day he went missing and said that while he seemed happy about his unborn child, she sensed he was frightened about something. When she asked him what was wrong, he told her he would tell her later, but he disappeared before he had the chance. A few days after he was last seen, the camouflage-print hat and matching hooded sweatshirt he had been wearing were discovered in a wooded area off Wolfers Hollow Road, not far from where he was last seen. Despite extensive searches of the area, no other trace of Joshua was found. The man he was last seen with has not been publicly identified.

His family, in partnership with Crimestoppers of Oconee County, Inc., offered a reward for any information that would lead to his whereabouts. The case was featured on local billboards and social media in an effort to generate leads. Investigators have considered the possibility that his disappearance could be connected to other local missing person cases, including those of Pamela "Faith" Roach, Laura Anders, and Tammy Stubblefield, who all vanished from the area in 2019, as they shared some mutual acquaintances. However, no definitive link has been established.
