In the late autumn of 2008, a three-year-old boy named Qua'mere Sincere Rogers, affectionately known as Quatti, disappeared from Syracuse, New York. His last confirmed sighting was in late November of that year, though the date is sometimes recorded as December 1, 2008. Qua'mere was a small child for his age, standing about 2 feet 5 inches tall and weighing around 30 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last known to be in the care of an adult male relative, a man who was his mother's partner. The circumstances leading up to the day he vanished are rooted in a deeply troubled and unstable home environment, which would later complicate the investigation into where the young boy could have gone. Qua'mere was born in June 2005 to a mother who was only sixteen years old. She was in a relationship with a much older and abusive man named Damion Davis, whom she believed was Qua'mere's father. Fearing for her own safety, Qua'mere's mother fled the abusive household in 2006 or 2007, leaving her young son behind in Davis's care. She would not see her son again, and for a period, she misled the Department of Social Services by stating that Qua'mere was living with her. The boy's disappearance did not come to the attention of law enforcement until July 2009, when police received a tip that Davis knew the whereabouts of a missing child. This officially began the search for Qua'mere, long after he was last seen. When questioned, Damion Davis provided a perplexing account of the boy's whereabouts. He claimed that in July 2007, he had given Qua'mere to a man he barely knew in Brooklyn, New York. Davis alleged this man was a member of the United Nation of Moors, a group also known as the Nuwaubians, and that they had promised to care for the child, possibly taking him to Georgia. Authorities found this story to be highly improbable, especially since there was evidence that Qua'mere was still in Syracuse nearly a year and a half after Davis claimed to have given him away. The investigation took several turns, including a violent incident where a friend of Davis's stabbed another man in December 2008 for reportedly asking too many questions about Qua'mere. In a stunning development in 2011, a DNA test revealed that Damion Davis was not Qua'mere's biological father. While Davis was never charged in direct connection with the boy's disappearance, he was convicted and imprisoned for other crimes, including the statutory rape of Qua'mere's young mother. Investigators now believe that Qua'mere was likely a victim of a homicide, and they treat it as such, even though his body has never been found. The case remains unsolved, leaving only lingering questions and a profound sense of loss for the little boy who vanished.
