Damion Davis, who has used multiple aliases, has faced legal trouble for other offenses, including charges related to Quamere's case, though some were later dropped. Rogers, who was known by the nickname "Quatti," was last known to be in the care of an adult male relative. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are complex and have led authorities to treat the case as a homicide, though he is still officially classified as a missing person.

The investigation into Qua'mere's disappearance has focused on Damion Davis, who was his mother's boyfriend at the time. Qua'mere's mother, who was a teenager when he was born, had left her abusive relationship with Davis in 2006 and had not seen her son since. Despite this, she falsely reported to the Department of Social Services that Qua'mere was living with her. When questioned by police in July 2009, Davis claimed he had given the boy to a man named Yusef Ben Ali in Brooklyn, New York, in July 2007. Davis alleged that Ali was a member of the United Nation of Moors, also known as the Nuwaubians, and that the group would care for the child. However, authorities doubt this story, as Qua'mere was seen in Syracuse nearly a year and a half after Davis claimed to have given him away.

Authorities have found no evidence to support Davis's claims about the Nuwaubian group's involvement. In December 2009, Davis was charged with child abandonment, third-degree rape, and endangering the welfare of a child; the latter charges stemmed from his relationship with Qua'mere's underage mother. The child abandonment charge was later dropped. In a significant development in September 2011, DNA testing revealed that Davis was not Qua'mere's biological father. Davis was later convicted of rape in April 2012 and sentenced to prison. Investigators believe Qua'mere was likely killed, but his body has never been found, and his case remains unsolved.
