On a summer day in 1938, four-year-old Hickle Harley Ware, known affectionately as "Punky," was with his two older brothers, ages ten and thirteen, in a meadow near their family farm in Bungo Township, Minnesota. It was between noon and 1:00 p.m. on June 11th when his brothers went to round up some cattle, telling young Hickle to stay put until they came back.
