The group had a party that continued into the early hours of the morning. At around 5:45 a.m. on November 1, Noel left the cabin alone, reportedly to go grouse hunting, and was never seen again. He did not carry essential supplies like a compass or matches, making his situation even more precarious as the temperatures that night dropped below freezing.

A local resident reported hearing gunshots, which may have been Noel’s attempt to signal for help. During the search, authorities found a discarded mosquito-netting mask and an open rifle shell, suggesting that Noel might have tried to start a fire. However, no further clues were found, and a snowstorm that followed hampered further search efforts.

Noel, a senior at North St. Paul High School, was an athletic teenager who had aspirations to attend the University of Minnesota at Duluth. Despite extensive search efforts and investigations, no trace of him has ever been found. His family continues to seek closure, hoping for any information that could explain his disappearance.
