On May 26, 2001, 66-year-old Peggy Ann Cottrell disappeared from Marshalltown, Iowa, and has not been heard from since. A resident of the Southridge Nursing Home, Cottrell had been dropped off at the facility by a relative during the early evening hours. Just minutes later, at approximately 6:30 p.m., she was seen running away from the nursing home. Authorities believe that she left of her own accord.
At the time of her disappearance, Cottrell was described as being in a good mood, according to family members. She was wearing a white sweater with a pink and blue design and dark-colored slacks. Cottrell is a white female, 5'7" tall, and weighed 167 pounds at the time she went missing. She has black hair and brown eyes. It is also noted that she may use the last names Dickenson or Rowan.
Several weeks after she was reported missing, a significant piece of evidence was discovered when a fisherman found Cottrell's purse along the banks of the Iowa River. The purse contained her identification and cash. Despite this discovery, law enforcement officials have been unable to determine what happened to her.
