In early 1989, Roy Jacob Hagel, a 38-year-old traveling salesman from North Dakota, embarked on a journey that would end in a perplexing mystery. After attending a bowling tournament in Fargo, North Dakota, on February 26, 1989, he inexplicably began driving across the country. His travels came to light on March 8, 1989, when he placed a phone call to his ex-girlfriend from a stop in Kingman, Arizona.
