Anne Marie Pappalardo, a 61-year-old mother of two from Mansfield, Connecticut, was last seen on October 26th. She reportedly left her home alone in her Honda Civic without her cellphone. Her vehicle was later discovered near the Natchaug Forest in Chaplin, along Route 198. A camera at the entrance to a farm across the street from the parking lot where her car was found captured a vehicle pulling in, and then the hazard lights of a car were seen flashing for several hours that night until the
battery apparently died. The car was found in disarray, stuck in a drainage swale, with locked doors and a non-functioning battery. Rosary beads were found in the dirt next to the car.
Following the discovery of her vehicle, extensive searches were conducted in the Natchaug State Forest by state and Environmental Conservation police, with the assistance of search dogs. The forest spans several miles across three towns, presenting a challenging search area. At the time of her disappearance, Pappalardo was described as being 5'8' tall, weighing 150 pounds, and was last seen wearing a black jacket, a black vest, black leggings, and brown boots. Her family described her as someone who was stubborn enough to potentially try and walk the long distance home and would have avoided trespassing on private property to ask for help. They made public pleas for anyone with video footage from the area to come forward, hoping a small clue might lead to her whereabouts.
In a sad development, human remains were discovered in a wooded area in Chaplin on April 24th. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later confirmed the remains belonged to Anne Marie Pappalardo. While the cause of her death remains under investigation, authorities have stated that there is no initial reason to suspect foul play.
