In the early evening of March 24, 1987, a 36-year-old Honolulu resident named Robert B. Austria left his home for what was likely a routine bicycle ride. The time was approximately 7:00 p.m. as he set out, dressed in a beige shirt and gray pants. His mode of transportation was a distinctive blue Fujiyama 10-speed bicycle.
