In the small community of Missouri Valley, Iowa, the disappearance of 36-year-old Jesse George in the summer of 2023 left his loved ones and the town searching for answers. Jesse, a white male with brown hair and brown eyes, was last seen in the early morning hours of June 28, 2023. At the time, he was near a residence on 4th Street in Missouri Valley.
Described as being 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing approximately 270 pounds, Jesse was a noticeable figure, further distinguished by several tattoos. His left arm was adorned with stars, the words “Respected Few,” “Fear None,” the Statue of Liberty, and "wicked six," while his right arm featured tattoos of "Jesse James," a cross, and a "187" gun. On the day he went missing, his girlfriend, Carrie Petrzilka, recalled him kissing her goodbye before he left for work, telling her he would see her when she got home. However, when she returned, Jesse was not there. He did not have a vehicle but often used a small motorbike for transportation around town. At the time of his disappearance, he was not employed.
As days turned into weeks and then months, the search for Jesse intensified, with law enforcement and the community uniting in their efforts to find him. The Missouri Valley Police Department, in collaboration with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Harrison County Sheriff's Office, actively investigated his disappearance. Public appeals were made for any information regarding his whereabouts, and Harrison County Crime Stoppers offered a $1,000 reward for tips that could lead to locating him. His case was classified as an endangered missing person, highlighting the concern for his well-being. Despite these efforts and the circulation of his description, no promising leads initially emerged, leaving his family in a state of agonizing uncertainty.
The painful mystery of Jesse George's disappearance came to a tragic end in the spring of 2026. In April of that year, law enforcement conducted a search in a rural, wooded area approximately four miles northwest of Missouri Valley, where they discovered human remains. The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner later positively identified the remains as those of Jesse George. The cause of death was ruled a homicide. In a significant breakthrough, on May 18, 2026, agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation arrested 52-year-old Joseph Langford of Missouri Valley. Langford was subsequently charged with Murder in the First Degree and Abuse of a Corpse. Court documents revealed that investigators were led to George's body based on tips received in the case. The investigation into the circumstances of his death is ongoing.
