On September 4, 1987, Manzo, a white male with graying hair and brown eyes, attended a 3:30 p.m. wake at the Passantino Funeral Chapel located in the vicinity of Independence Avenue and Garfield. He was last seen wearing a light brown shirt, brown pants, brown shoes, and his bifocal glasses.
After departing the funeral home, Salvatore Manzo was never seen or heard from again. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance would soon point to a grim and unsettling conclusion.
The day after Manzo was last seen, his beige 1982 Oldsmobile Toronado was discovered abandoned. The vehicle was parked behind a grocery store near the intersection of Independence Avenue and Paseo Boulevard, not far from where he was last seen.
