Paula Louise Merchant, a 25-year-old woman from Forest Acres, South Carolina, disappeared on the evening of January 3, 1999. She left her parents' home around 6:30 p.m. to attend a Narcotics Anonymous meeting at a local church but never arrived. Later that night, around midnight, her tan 1989 Nissan Sentra was found burned and abandoned behind a vacant building on Commerce Drive in Columbia, South Carolina.
