On January 16, 2003, 49-year-old Mark Duane Folz was last seen in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was at an ATM in the vicinity of the 1500 block of East Lake Street around 2:00 p.m. Some reports also indicate he may have been at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center that day. Folz had told a friend he was planning to drive to Hastings, Minnesota, to visit, but he never arrived. He was driving a burgundy or maroon 1991 Ford Taurus with Minnesota license plate number DTC-675.

Mark Folz is a white male with brown, graying hair and blue eyes. He stands between 6'0" and 6'1" tall and weighs between 225 and 250 pounds. He has a distinctive tattoo of a teardrop below his right eye. A significant physical characteristic is that both of his legs are amputated below the knees, and he wears prosthetics. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a gold watch on his left wrist. It is also known that Folz is a diabetic and requires medication, which he did not have with him at the time he went missing.
There has been no activity on his bank accounts since his disappearance. The Willmar Police Department is investigating his case, with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Over the years, efforts have been made to locate him and his vehicle. In 2022, a search-and-rescue dive team, Adventures with Purpose, searched the Mississippi River near downtown Minneapolis for his car, but nothing was found.
