Kenneth Thomas Klein, age 8, went missing on November 10, 1951, along with his younger brothers, David and Daniel, after leaving their home in north Minneapolis to play at Fairview Park, which was only four blocks away. The three brothers were last seen at 1:30 p.m., but they never returned home. When their older brother, Gordon, went to meet them at the park, he found no trace of them.
This prompted an extensive search involving police and tracking dogs, which led authorities to the nearby Mississippi River. The dogs picked up the boys' scent near the riverbank but then lost the trail.
Over the following days, two of the boys’ caps and their Roman Catholic catechism books were found near the river, fueling concerns that they might have drowned. Despite thorough searches of the river, including using boats and divers, no bodies were recovered. Authorities speculated that the boys' bodies might have been carried downstream or trapped in the river's silt, but the case remained open as no conclusive evidence emerged.
The Klein family, devastated by the loss, held onto hope for many years, even placing advertisements in newspapers as late as the 1990s, seeking any information about their sons. Despite these efforts, the disappearance of Kenneth and his brothers remains one of Minnesota’s oldest unsolved missing persons cases. Kenneth was described as a small boy with brown hair and eyes, wearing a red jacket and cap on the day of his disappearance.
