Timothy Joseph Lynch, a 44-year-old man from Newburgh, Indiana, went missing on June 6, 2003, while hiking at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. He had been visiting Hawaii and was last seen hiking along Chain of Craters Road, a popular but rugged area known for its proximity to active lava flows. On June 13, a week after his disappearance, his rental car was found abandoned near the park's entrance, close to the lava fields, but there was no sign of Lynch.
