On October 30, 2004, 48-year-old Kimberly Ann Forbes was last seen at her home in the 1600 block of Jeanette Road in Hood River, Oregon. She had a conversation with her teenage daughter that evening, outlining her plans for the following day, October 31. Forbes, a female described as reliable and punctual, intended to meet a friend for breakfast just a few miles from her home and then continue on to Portland for a solo shopping trip. However, she never arrived for her breakfast appointment, and from that point on, all communication from her ceased. Her friends and family grew concerned, as it was highly uncharacteristic of her to disappear without any warning, especially since she was reportedly in good spirits. The investigation into Kimberly's disappearance took a significant turn on November 19, 2004, when her burgundy 2000 Ford Explorer SUV was found abandoned. The vehicle was located approximately 55 miles from her home in a restaurant parking lot in Gresham, Oregon, in the 18800 block of Southeast Stark Street. Witnesses reported that the SUV had been parked there since at least November 5. The vehicle's condition raised immediate alarms; the rear passenger window was broken, and the driver's seat was pushed back much farther than would be comfortable for a person of Kimberly's height. Inside and around the Explorer, investigators found women's clothing, fast food containers, and credit card receipts. Despite the discovery of her vehicle, Kimberly Forbes was nowhere to be found. Fingerprints found inside the SUV were matched to a local Gresham man who admitted to breaking into the vehicle and stealing items from it after it was abandoned. He told investigators that it appeared the vehicle had already been broken into before he found it. After cooperating with the police and passing a polygraph test, he was cleared of any involvement in her actual disappearance. There has been no activity on Kimberly's bank accounts or credit cards since she went missing, and her cell phone has remained off. Law enforcement has stated they suspect foul play, believing it is unlikely she left on her own accord. The case remains an active and unsolved missing person investigation, leaving her loved ones without answers.
