In the early morning hours of November 13, 2022, the life of 20-year-old Karly Wood, a White/Caucasian female, was tragically cut short. She was at an after-hours party near 33rd and Ames Avenue in Omaha, Nebraska, when a confrontation escalated into a mass shooting just after 4:00 a.m. In the chaos that ensued, Karly was shot and killed, and seven other people were injured.
The promising future of the young woman, known for her kindness and entrepreneurial spirit, was extinguished in a senseless act of violence.
The investigation into the shooting led Omaha Police to identify several individuals involved. One man, Imhotep Davis, then 25 years old, was identified as a primary suspect in Karly's death. He was among those injured in the shooting. In February 2023, Davis was formally charged with second-degree murder, assault, and use of a weapon to commit a felony. He was held without bond as the case proceeded.
The legal process that followed brought some measure of justice for Karly's family. In September 2024, a jury convicted Imhotep Davis on seven counts, including manslaughter, for his role in the shooting that ended Karly Wood's life. Two other men also faced charges in connection to the incident. Tyrell Lampkin-Davis was sentenced to five years of probation for being an accessory to a felony, while Kiwan Dampier was sentenced to up to 17 and a half years in prison on related charges. Though her family continues to grieve, the convictions marked a significant step in holding accountable those responsible for the tragic loss of a young life.
