On a quiet street in Omaha, Nebraska, the life of 93-year-old Marceline P. Teeters, a Caucasian female, came to a tragic and unexpected end on August 13, 2022. On that Saturday afternoon, police were called to a residence on Frederick Street, where they discovered the bodies of Marceline and her 70-year-old daughter, Linda Walter. The circumstances of their deaths were immediately deemed suspicious by investigators, launching a double homicide investigation that would soon unravel a familial
tragedy.
In the days following the discovery, the investigation quickly focused on a person of interest who was close to the two women. A warrant was issued for Gage Walter, Marceline's 27-year-old great-grandson and Linda's grandson. The search for him intensified when it was discovered that a red Chrysler PT Cruiser belonging to Linda had been stolen from the scene of the crime. The vehicle was spotted the next day in Iowa, leading to a police chase that ended with Gage Walter barricading himself inside an empty church in Winterset. After a standoff with law enforcement, he was taken into custody.
The investigation revealed that Marceline and Linda had been bludgeoned to death with a hammer. Gage Walter was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, and one count of attempted first-degree murder for an incident that occurred a day prior. As the legal proceedings unfolded, Gage Walter's mental state became a central issue. After evaluations by medical professionals, he was ultimately found not responsible for the killings by reason of insanity. He was then committed to the Lincoln Regional Center for treatment.
