The night of January 7, 1981, was marked by a severe snowstorm, mirroring the turmoil within the walls of her residence. That evening, Lonene, who was profoundly deaf, had an argument with her husband, Clinton "Bud" Rogers. According to his account, he went to bed and woke up in the early morning hours to find she was not in the house. He told authorities he assumed she was sleeping on the couch, but by morning, she was gone. The only items missing were her navy blue peacoat, blue jeans, and high brown boots, yet perplexingly, her purse, car keys, and essential hearing aid were all left behind. The circumstances surrounding Lonene’s disappearance were immediately concerning to her family. Leaving behind her two beloved children, aged one and six, was entirely out of character. The fact that she vanished during a blizzard without her vehicle or the hearing aid she relied upon raised significant alarm. Despite a separation in late 1980 due to her husband's criminal activities, Lonene had allowed him to stay through the holidays for the sake of their children. He was reportedly supposed to leave after the holidays but had refused to do so, leading to the argument on the night she was last seen. Initially, her husband did not report her missing, stating he believed she had left of her own will and would eventually come back, a claim her family found difficult to accept. For decades, the case grew cold, leaving a painful void for Lonene's children and loved ones. Her daughter, in particular, has been a tireless advocate, determined to uncover the truth of what happened to her mother. There was never any activity on Lonene's Social Security number, and none of her friends or relatives ever heard from her again. The investigation saw a significant development in November 2025, when Clinton Rogers was charged with criminal homicide in connection with his wife's disappearance after admitting he caused her death. Despite this admission, Lonene’s body has never been found.
