Nicholas Vincent Smith, an 11-year-old boy, disappeared on February 23, 1991, from Las Cruces, New Mexico, along with his mother, Edyth Ann Warner. The two lived in student housing at New Mexico State University, where Edyth was an art student. On the day of their disappearance, Edyth reportedly told her husband, Henry Warner, that she and Nicholas would be staying with a friend temporarily. However, they left behind Edyth's car and her 3-year-old son, Andrew. The police were notified a week later when Henry filed a missing persons report.

The case has raised suspicions of foul play, especially since there has been no activity on their Social Security numbers and no requests for Nicholas's school records since their disappearance. Edyth's family and Nicholas's father, Ron Smith, found it uncharacteristic of Edyth to abandon her younger son or for Nicholas to leave without contact, particularly since he had a good relationship with his biological father.

In 2008, authorities stated they believed foul play was involved in their disappearance, although no suspects have been named. Despite searches and investigations over the years, both Nicholas and his mother remain missing, and their case remains unsolved.
