In the quiet Toledo, Ohio neighborhood on Eastway Street, the evening of June 5, 2000, marked the beginning of a lasting mystery with the disappearance of 78-year-old Nicholas Blasetzky. A Ukrainian national, he was last seen at his residence at approximately 7:00 p.m. On that evening, he was observed leaving his home in his white 1983 Buick Century, bearing the Ohio license plate NRB-8, and was seen driving north on Eastway toward Eleanor Avenue. This departure was unusual for Mr. Blasetzky, as he had stopped driving at night years prior. Tragically, he never returned, and neither he nor his vehicle has been seen since. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance were concerning, particularly as he was living with Alzheimer's disease and may have been confused or disoriented. His uncharacteristic behavior on the day he went missing raised immediate alarms for those who knew him. The day of his disappearance was marked by several out-of-the-ordinary events that painted a concerning picture for his loved ones and investigators. A devoted member of the Harvest Tabernacle Church of God in east Toledo, Mr. Blasetzky was typically one of the first to arrive for Sunday services; however, on that day, he arrived half an hour late. This was highly uncharacteristic of the man for whom the church's fellowship hall would later be named. Later that evening, a neighbor who looked after him reported seeing him get into his car, start it, and then get out again multiple times before finally driving away. In his haste or confusion, he left his garage door open. A search of his home by the neighbor revealed that his medication was missing. Following his departure, there was no activity on his credit cards or bank accounts, deepening the mystery of his whereabouts. Despite the passage of years, the search for Nicholas Blasetzky has continued, with his case remaining an active and troubling puzzle for law enforcement and his community. He was last seen wearing a bright orange winter cap. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a white male, 5'6" tall, weighing 150 pounds, with graying hair and hazel eyes. He also wore a full set of dentures. Various search efforts have been made over the years, including searches of local waterways, but these have not yielded any definitive answers regarding his fate or the location of his vehicle. The Toledo Police Department continues to hold the case, hoping that one day new information will come to light and provide closure for a family and community that have waited for decades. The case of Nicholas Blasetzky serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring pain and uncertainty that surrounds a missing loved one, a story of a man who seemingly vanished without a trace, leaving behind a legacy of unanswered questions.
