In the summer of 2017, 63-year-old Alvin Darrow vanished from his Toledo, Ohio, home, leaving behind a life that, by all accounts, he had no intention of abandoning. He had spent part of the day with his oldest son at the Lost Peninsula Marina before heading to his residence in the 300 block of Majestic Road to pick up some boat supplies. He assured his son he would return to the marina shortly after his brief trip home. A neighbor saw him arrive and exchanged a few words with him, noting that Alvin mentioned he was in a hurry to get back to the marina. This would be one of the last known interactions with Alvin. When he failed to return, concern grew, leading to a disturbing discovery at his house. The home was found unsecure, and his beloved dogs, Jake and Molly, had not been cared for. Crucially, his wallet, cell phone, medication, and car were all left behind, indicators that his departure was not planned. Alvin was a 63-year-old white male, standing at five feet eight inches tall and weighing around 185 pounds, with graying hair and brown eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was believed to be wearing a black Harley Davidson t-shirt and khaki pants or blue jeans. The investigation into his disappearance uncovered a series of complex and troubling family dynamics. Attention eventually focused on his other son, Timothy Darrow, with whom Alvin reportedly had a tumultuous relationship. Friends of Alvin stated that disputes between the father and son had become so heated that Alvin had expressed fear for his life. The investigation culminated years later when Timothy was indicted and charged with his father's murder. The prosecution's case against Timothy Darrow was built on circumstantial evidence, alleging that a physical altercation between him and his father on the day Alvin disappeared had turned fatal. They pointed to inconsistencies in Timothy's account of events and the fact that Alvin had not accessed his bank accounts or been seen by anyone since that day as proof that he had not simply walked away from his life. The defense, however, highlighted the lack of a body or a crime scene as a major hole in the state's theory. After a trial, a jury found Timothy Darrow not guilty of the murder charges. Despite the legal proceedings, Alvin Darrow has never been located, and his disappearance remains a painful mystery for his loved ones. The case is a somber overview of a man who vanished from his home, leaving behind all his worldly possessions and a family fractured by suspicion and loss, with no clear answers as to what happened to him.
