Patricia Joan Chesher, a 12-year-old girl, was last seen on June 17, 1969, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On that day, she left her home around 3:00 p.m. to sell raffle tickets for her brother's unicycle club, a task she had offered to help with. Patricia briefly returned home to retrieve a coin purse after making change for a neighbor who had bought a raffle ticket. She left again, telling her siblings she would be back before their mother returned from work.
However, Patricia never came back, and she has not been seen or heard from since.
Initially, investigators considered the possibility that Patricia had run away, but her family always believed foul play was involved. Patricia, the youngest of eight siblings, lived with her mother and some of her older siblings at the time. Various individuals, including a neighbor who bought a ticket, a relative accused of past misconduct, and a former boyfriend of her older sister, were considered persons of interest. However, no one was ever charged, and many of the potential suspects have since passed away.
Over the years, there have been few developments in Patricia's case, though it was reopened in 2010. Despite some individuals reportedly confessing to her murder, these claims were not substantiated, and Patricia's fate remains a mystery.
