On a December evening in 1990, 23-year-old Lisa Renee Zochowski vanished from Phoenix, Arizona, after making plans to go shopping with her estranged husband. She was last seen on December 27, 1990, at approximately 6:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of east Georgia. Before she left, she dropped off her two young children with a relative, promising to return for them in a couple of hours after a trip to the Christown Mall with Marek Lucjan Zochowski. Lisa, a white female with brown hair that had red highlights and brown eyes, was wearing a long gray coat, gray pants, purple socks, and white sneakers. She also wore a thin gold engagement ring on the middle finger of her right hand. Lisa was never seen or heard from again. The investigation into Lisa's disappearance soon focused on her estranged husband, Marek Zochowski. Authorities noted that he had scratches on his neck shortly after she went missing. A significant piece of evidence was the discovery of blood spatter inside his car. Lisa's vehicle, a green 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier, was later found abandoned. These findings, coupled with the circumstances of her disappearance, led investigators to suspect foul play. In 1998, eight years after Lisa vanished, Marek Zochowski was charged with her murder. The following year, in 1999, he was convicted of manslaughter for his role in her death. Marek Zochowski was sentenced to fourteen years in prison for the death of his estranged wife. After completing his sentence, he was deported to his native Poland in 2012. Despite the conviction, Lisa Zochowski's body has never been found. The case is considered a presumed homicide, and though a conviction was secured, the lack of a recovery has left her family without the chance to lay her to rest. The disappearance of Lisa Zochowski is a somber case that highlights the lasting pain of unresolved loss, even when the justice system has rendered a verdict. Her case remains a poignant reminder of a life cut short and the enduring questions that linger when a loved one vanishes without a trace.
